"Desert" Defined
The "desert", to which the club refers, is geographically located in the low desert of southern California, also known as the Coachella Valley and usually referenced as Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Indio.


Club "Whelping"
In 2003, two friends, Meg Doolittle and Donna Jiaras, regularly walked their standard poodles, Jackie and Cookie, down El Paseo in Palm Desert, California every morning. One day the idea of a standard poodle club came to light ... "wouldn't it be nice to connect with other standard poodle lovers and have them join us on walks?" The Standard Poodle Club of the Desert was founded.

Club Mission
Standard Poodle Club and Rescue of the Desert and Greater Palm Springs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. Our mission is to create a social club for our members and their standard poodles and to support the rescue and re-homing of surrendered or abandoned Standard Poodles.
